Installation, jessie, stretch and and java8

The installation procedure on one hand recommends jessie (and as seen in other thread problems on stretch start with apt key verification), and OTOH requires java8 which is not available in jessie.
The installation procedure should maybe point the jessie-backports to get java8-runtime.
But then, 1.17.1.RELEASE-8 package still depends on java7-runtime, which does not help to clarify the situation.
